Who We Are....

Boy Mom Marathon focuses on troubled youth. In hopes of working with the court system, I plan to be the “middle-man” who advocates for youth facing detainment within a detention center. Detention centers are early preparation for prison time. I plan on being the liaison between the courts and the youth to provide an opportunity to continue school, while engaging in extracurricular activities such as, but not limited to; cooking classes, etiquette classes, art, music, S.T.E.M programs through volunteers, sport activities, yoga/meditation, fitness and boxing, sexual education to prevent teenage pregnancy, and more. These opportunities will be granted through a mandated order through the courts, such that as long as a child remains in school, maintaining grades appropriate, attending all mandatory programs, the child should be able to remain detention free, eliminating the label that comes with youth offenders also referred to as the labeling theory, which reinforces the disproportionate incarceration of minority youth, Black youth in particular.

The Purpose:

Primary mission is to deter disproportionate incarceration of minority youth, particularly Black youth by providing a liaison between the courts to act as a prevention method before definite/indefinite detainment within a juvenile correctional facility or setting. Engaging the youth in activities including sports, meditation and fitness classes will help to transfer stress and anxiety into a positive realm, resetting the mindset of those youth effected by domestic violence in the home, peer-pressure, and self-esteem issues. We want to bring attention to the underlying issues minority families face in their cities when the resources they require or obsolete, scarce, hard to obtain and more.
